About our courses

High School courses

Red Oak Academy provides a secular core curriculum of high school courses that are designed and selected specifically for gifted, regular and special needs students who are not able to meet their full potential in other school settings.

After enrolling, the student receives a username and password to gain access to the Red Oak Academy website where they may access general instructions, course materials, course outlines and work assignments from home or at our central location on La Sierra Drive, Dallas.

Assignments are correlated to Texas state adopted learner objectives and textbooks. Textbooks are provided to parents at minimal cost through Amazon, Half-Priced Books, TheBackpack and many other used textbook providers. Learner objectives are formulated from curriculum guidelines but parents, physicians and Red Oak staff members.

Live video classes

Students may attend daily classes online. Attendance in these live multicasts is documented electronically during the class. Missed classes may be viewed at anytime from the Red Oak website.

Written Assignments are submitted by e-mail or fax and receive individualized attention from each of the Red Oak Academy instructors. Using this feedback, the student prepares the next assignment. At the end of the course, the student takes a final exam.  Exams are monitored by parents at home and by school staff on the Red Oak campus.

Special Needs Students

Red Oak Academy began pioneering distance learning techniques for students with disabilities in 1995. Since that time, over 8000 students have entered the program. The data compiled from these students’ experiences of distance learning has shown that computer assisted and Internet Based instruction serve to overcome many attention and processing disabilities. Indeed, Red Oak Academy has learned that many students who fit the profile for ADD/ADHD, Dyslexia, Speech/ Language and hearing Disorders exceed their standard learning expectations using their methodologies.

Red Oak Academy voluntarily complies with Sections 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1975 and the Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act in preparing cooperative individualized education plans (IEPs) for each special needs student enrolling. Parents, counselors, health care professionals and Red Oak Academy professional staff members work together to create realistic goals for each student. Twice a year, this committee of knowledgeable persons reconvenes to assess the student's progress and make modifications to the IEP, as needed. collaborate on determining each student’s placement and work-load.
